Three-time Grammy award winner Nile Rodgers announced on Monday (Feb. 11) that he will guest curate this summer’s Meltdown festival in London’s Southbank Centre.

Rodgers is set to produce a “hand-picked line-up of show-stopping music, art and free events” for the annual Meltdown festival, a days-long event that gives prominent musicians the ability to book acts and events at U.K.’s largest multi-venue arts center throughout the last 25 years.

“To be able to curate and produce nine days of live music for the city of London, the U.K. and music enthusiasts visiting from all over the world is truly a dream come true,” Rodgers said in a statement.

The iconic guitarist gave an idea of what fans can expect from his lineup at Meltdown. “Anyone who knows my career knows that Funk, Disco, Jazz, Soul, Classical, POP, New Wave, R&B, Fusion, Punk Rock, Afrobeat, Electronic and Dance music all play a role and you can expect that to be reflected in the performances we are planning,” he stated. “It's all about the groove and this August everyone in London will be dancing to incredible live performances!"

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will take over Southbank Centre from Aug. 3 to 11 throughout its stages, including the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and the remainder of the 17-acre center. Rodgers joins the ranks of previous festival curators such as David Bowie, Yoko Ono, M.I.A and The Cure.

Bengi Ünsal, the senior contemporary music programmer at Southbank Centre, said in a statement that he is very excited to have the Chic frontman bring his talents to the world-famous stage.

"I am thrilled and honoured to welcome Nile Rodgers to Southbank Centre this August for the 26th Meltdown festival,” Ünsal stated. “Meltdown is the longest-running artist curated festival in the world and for 25 years has been celebrating those at the frontiers of music. It's hard to overstate the impact that this year's curator has had both as part of CHIC and as a solo producer on what we call popular music today. He is constantly creating and collaborating, and I can't wait to see what he will create across our venues. One thing's for certain: this will be the funkiest Meltdown yet."

Rodgers’ decades-spanning career has seen him collaborate with and produce some of today’s most prominent artists, including Sam Smith, Disclosure and the late Avicii. He also appeared on 2014’s “Get Lucky,” Daft Punk’s hit single featuring Pharell Williams as co-writer.
