The Wild Reeds Announce Release Date For Third LP 'Cheers,' Drop New Song 'Lose My Mind': Listen

Three months after dropping their surprise EP New Ways To Die, indie-folk quintet The Wild Reeds have announced their third studio album Cheers is due out March 8 via Dualtone Records.

The 13-track set tackles the relationship between co-lead singers Kinsey Lee, Mackenzie Howe and Sharon Silva, and specifically, how they dealt with break-ups, family deaths and discord within the band.

“It was a scary thing for us, because when you have three writers, you often have to do your best to tame your differences and come to some sort of agreement writing-wise, sonically, stylistically,” Howe said in a statement of Cheers. “It was the first time we said, ‘Screw that, why don’t we just record the songs the way they should be done?’”

In advance of the release, the group shared the first single off the new set, “Lose My Mind,” a R&B-laden bluesy track with their signature harmonies.

“[The song] is about friendship, family, and my best friend. When I am at my highest and lowest, he’s always been the one to remind me who I am and who I want to be,” Lee said in a statement. “I spent years working on this song to help it find its true form. We got into the live room at the end of a long day, and kept on playing it over and over in different ways, with different feels, in all of the forms that I wrote and rewrote for three years. This is the farthest version of the song that I would have imagined, but this is the most satisfied I have ever felt with a song that I have written. The freedom of the studio helped me find a voice in this song that I never knew I had."

The group’s previous album The World We Built -- their first major-label release -- debuted and peaked at No. 22 on the Americana/Folk Albums chart and No. 25 on the Heatseekers Albums chart (both dated April 29, 2017).

The Wild Reeds have been busy on tour this year with Shakey Graves, Gregory Alan Isakov and The Lone Bellow.
