Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Stuns Basketball Fans in Japan with Surprise Halftime Show

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu surprised basketball fans last Thursday (Oct. 4) when she appeared in the halftime show of the pro B.League season opener between the Chiba Jets and Kawasaki Brave Thunders at the Funabashi Arena in Chiba, Japan.

The J-pop singer has a partnership with XFLAG Studio, a video game/visual content provider and eSports sponsor famous for its Monster Strike game app used by over 40 million people worldwide. Kyary appeared without notice at the "XFLAG Entertainment Partner" tie-up announcement in March, so this was the second time she surprised audiences at the same arena.

The "Fashion Monster" singer brought four dancers onto the court as the lights went down and performed her latest single, "Kizunami," the opener for the animated film Monster Strike The Movie Sora No Kanata in the midst of a virtual city projected on the floor through projection mapping technology.

Glowing bracelets handed out to fans before the game sparkled in sync with the song, filling the arena with a sea of lights that heightened the special visual treat on the court.

After her performance, Kyary commented that she had been overwhelmed by the exciting game prior to her show and that she was honored to perform: "I was feeling pretty nervous before coming out, but was glad to see everyone smiling and enjoying the show."

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's new album, Japamyu -- featuring "Kizunami" and nine other tracks -- dropped in September. Monster Strike The Movie Sora No Kanata opened in Japanese theaters Friday (Oct. 5).
